Cutty Sark Gardens
Acanthus Architects LW produced proposals for the Cutty Sark Gardens in Greenwich working alongside schemes for a new pier by Conran and Partners and the Cutty Sark Visitor centre by Grimshaw Architects. The design aimed to create a flexible space to accommodate tourist-based pedestrian traffic. As part of a public arts strategy a ‘time-line’, was proposed, where a series of urban elements highlighted fragments of historic information, spatially culminating in a new public riverside viewing platform. Corten steel and timber were proposed for their raw, robust and distinct characteristics, and as a reference to the maritime significance of the site.
