Acanthus Architects LW were commissioned to remodel and extend Denville Hall and to redesign the surrounding gardens. The integration of the building and landscape was a central theme to the project with bridges leading from the first floor into the garden and existing woodland areas.
The existing garden setting boasted many mature trees which were retained in order to enhance the new entrance forecourt, pergola covered car park, courtyards and stepped retaining walled gardens.
The main emphasis of the design was to assist those with sensory impairments and dementia. Water features and planting were used for sensory stimulation and spring flowering shrubs and bulbs were planted to act as memory triggers. Wandering loops with focal points were also created to aid the orientation of the residents.
