Denville Hall in Northwood, Middlesex, is the retirement home for The Actors Charitable Trust. The total building area of 2,500m2 includes the complete remodelling of the existing mansion house and a striking large new crescent shaped extension set within newly landscaped grounds.
The project was won in a limited two stage competition. The new scheme provides a total of 40 bedrooms, including 15 for residents suffering from dementia. A theatre, bar and green room are included in the scheme.
Construction was carried out using a two stage tender with open book second stage. The contractor and design team collaborated fully to solve the problems arising from working around frail elderly residents.
The project was awarded the Sustainability Prize by the Brick Development Association.
